I am proud to say that our breast reconstruction service is the highest provider of reconstructions for patients undergoing mastectomy, as shown by a national study. Due to the service we provide at St Andrews, which is supported by the Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) charity, the rate of patients undergoing reconstruction following mastectomy in our region is more than double that of the rest of the country.
Our BRA charity was founded seventeen years ago and since then has raised enough funds to enable us to purchase specialist equipment for the wards, clinics and operating theatres. We have also been able to provide a nipple tattoo service, and the purchase of garments for patients to wear following their breast reconstruction, as well as setting up an Essex-wide Risk Reducing Mastectomy Multi-disciplinary team. We have supported over 4000 patients who have visited our Breast Reconstruction Awareness support evenings and much of this is due to the tireless work our nursing staff and previous patients in providing their support to all aspects of breast reconstruction.
Further fundraising events are planned for this year, culminating in a Butterfly Ball to be held at Orsett Hall on Friday 17th June 2022, which we hope will raise funds for a state of the art surgical microscope which costs around £100,000.
We would like to invite you to contribute to this cause in whatever way you can and have outlined some options below to enable you to support this worthwhile cause:
Please come and join us at the Butterfly Ball at Orsett Hall on
Friday 17th June 2022 by purchasing tickets @ £75 each, or table of ten for £750.
You can help us by donating an auction prize for the charity to be
